Ahoy, me hearties!
At the end of every January, Tampa, FL hosts the country’s 3rd largest parade known as: Gasparilla's Parade of Pirates. Gasparilla is a pirate themed festivity for people of all ages. For many young adults it looks like a day spent day drinking, watching the parade, then walking the plank the next morning.
My favorite part about Gasparilla is, of course: the outfits. Below are some of my outfits from previous years, as well as some outfit inspo for those that are planning on attending or are in need of some pirate themed outfit ideas.
**Need last minute outfit ideas that can be put together from things at home? The essentials for a pirate look include button up shirts, ripped/distressed apparel, corsets, belts, pants or skirts, leather, black boots, vests, scarves/bandanas, laces, layers, and a ton of jewelry. When it comes to patterns and colors: red, black, white, and stripes always do the trick.**
I bought this top (featured above) from Windsor a few years ago. I love to create new outfits with it by mixing and matching it with other things. This top is perfect for a pirate themed event, but also not too costume-like that I'm able to wear it on a normal day. Below, are some different ways to wear it/inspo for styling similar outfits.
Similar white tops: Boohoo; Nasty Gal. Similar lace-up black skirt. Black leather skirt: LF. Similar striped pants. Leather Spanx. Black skort featured in slideshow above.
More outfit ideas: corset/lace up sweaters; velvet material apparel; tops with bell sleeves (similar top linked); black crop tops (similar top linked).
For my first time at Gasparilla, I wore lace-up combat boots, fishnets, a black skort (linked earlier), and I used a corset belt to cinch around a pashmina-like vest/sweater I got from Boohoo a few seasons back (I'm really unsure about how to describe it). To finish the look: a long necklace, red bandana, red lipstick, and large black sunnies.
Shoes: Long boots, short boots, lace up boots
When it comes to accessories think: corsets, belts, bandanas, chokers, hoops, long necklaces, bracelets/bangles, rings, anything gold or silver.
Now.... "Arrrr you ready kids?" I hope after reading this post you can answer: Aye!
Okay, I will not pain you anymore with my attempted pirate talk. But I do hope that whether you're going to the Gasparilla Pirate Festival; headed to a pirate themed event; dressing as a pirate for Halloween, or maybe you just have a pirate influenced style- I hope this post was able to provide you with some outfit ideas and tips for achieving your best pirate look.
XOXO,
Alyssa Ashley
